Sometimes items from our subscription box make us so excited we want to shout it from the roof tops and suggest it to everyone we know! Others, make us so upset we wan't to warn the world not to waste their money. In this blog series, I explore those subscription box hits and misses and hopefully help you avoid a makeup purchase you'd regret! This month I am reviewing the Pacifica Beach Crystals Mini Palette I received in my February Ipsy. Will it be a hit or a miss? Read More to find out! First impressionsAt first, I wasn't exactly thrilled to get the Pacifica Beach Crystals Mini Palette, as I'm not the biggest fan of Pacifica. The colors are usually beautiful, and they are cruelty-free, which is a plus. Unfortunately, the pigmentation usually leaves a lot to be desired for me. Also, I don't use pastel purple very often. Pastel purple reminds me of a children's eyeshadow set and it's not the most flattering shade for me (or possibly anyone). SwatchesAs you can see in my swatch above, this is a fairly pigmented palette for Pacifica. The colors are beautiful, but then I remembered these swatches took an immense amount of packing. The method I used to pack these swatches will not be possible on my eyelid, so I don't think I will get this kind of pigmentation in an eye look. The more I looked at these swatches, the more I thought they would make a beautiful cheek look. I'm keeping that idea in my back pocket for when this palette inevitably doesn't work on my eyes. Using the paletteOh lord have mercy, this was difficult. I said I was going to make a complete eye look with this palette and I did. It only took about half a bottle of setting spray and a bunch of wet brushes. I used the bronze color on my lid, the two darker colors on my crease and the two purple colors on my brow bone. Those darker metallic colors i used for the crease were the worst. I went over it about 7 times with setting spray and eyeshadow and still couldn't get a crease darker than this. My favorite color was the purple on the far right. It has a beautiful iridescent shade that might make a fabulous highlighter (still thinking about that cheek look). I was also okay with the bronze, it took some setting spray but the pay off was better than any other color. I don't completely hate this look, but why would I spend 20 mins on an eye look I could create in 2 with any other palette? I am reluctant to call this a miss because I can see how it would work out for someone with a fairer skin tone. I'm also reluctant to call it a hit, however, because this brand limits it's diversity of customers due to pigmentation issues.
Even though Pacifica eye shadows can lack pigment for someone with my skin tone or darker, they are committed to producing a 100% Vegan, Cruelty-Free Product. I try to give them a break since they mean well. Who will this work for? Someone with fair and sensitive skin who really likes a minimal look. Otherwise, this might not be the palette for you. I know it's not the palette for me! Did you get this or any other Pacifica palette recently? What are your thoughts? Leave a Comment Below!
